Knitting Classes
I regularly run knitting courses suitable for all experiences.
I have run several Knit courses locally at Harpers Caffe in Boxted, Fillpots Nursery Cafe, Boxted and The Shepherd and Dog Pub in Langham.
Contact me if you wish to join any of these classes, I need a minimum of 4 people to make a class viable.
Courses available are:
Learn to Knit Course – Current start dates: January 2026
Six week course of 1 hour per week plus practice at home. Suitable for complete beginners or people who learned to knit many years ago and wish to have a refresher course. People learn at different rates, I will only teach you to the level you are confident with.
The aim will be to make this Bandera dishcloth:

You will learn:
* Cast on (2 methods)
* Knitting stitches
* Purling stitches
* Basic patterns to include rib
* Increasing stitches
* Decreasing Stitches
* Casting off
* Learn to read a basic pattern
I will provide all the materials you need for this course.
Improver Classes Level 1
Six week course of 1 hour per week plus practice at home.
This is suitable for people who have done my Learn to Knit course but are still struggling with confidence or those who have some experience knitting but want some guided practice.
For people who gain confidence quickly much of this course may be incorporated in the Learn to Knit Course.
The aim will be to make this Ace of Spades dishcloth:
You will learn:
* Revising the techniques in the Learn to Knit Course
* Keeping the stitches even
* Keeping the edges even
* How to undo stitches
* How to undo rows (frogging) and pick up stitches
* How to pick up dropped stitches
* Introduction to blocking
Improver Classes Level 2: Current start dates: 13th and 17th November 2025
If you are confident with all the basic techniques and you wish to have guidance making your first garment then this is the course for you. You will be expected to provide the yarn and needles required to complete the project and to spend time working on it at home.
My suggested project is this slipover,
it can be made in child or adults sizes. In just one colour or different colours for the ribbing.
If there is something else you wish to try, ask me if it’s suitable.
You will learn:
* Additional practice at reading patterns
* How to check your knitting tension with the pattern gauge required
* Sewing your garment together
* How to block your garment
Week 1 online: Introduction to pattern, choosing yarns and needles
Week 2 class: Checking the gauge and casting on
Homework: Working rib welt and up to armhole shaping
Week 3 class: progress check
Homework: Working up to the neck shaping
Week 4 class: Shaping the neckline and shoulders
Homework: Completing the front
Week 5 class: Sewing up a shoulder and picking up stitches for neck band
Week 6 class: Sewing up the sides and picking up stitches for the armholes. Blocking

Gaining Experience Knit Along (KAL)

Make your own family heirloom or something special to give for Christmas.
This is knitted in squares and then joined together.
There are lots of techniques to practice here:
* Cables
* Colour work (intarsia/stranded)
* Simple lacework
This will set you up to make anything you wish but also to enjoy making something special with your knitting buddies.
